For ten years, Total Request Live has invited musical guests and movie stars in through its doors and has created memorable pop culture moments and icons.
MTV has canceled the show because of declining ratings, but threw a final farewell bash to recognize the show’s importance to the music industry. Carson Daly, that original host, came back to host the TRL Total Finale Bash this past Sunday in New York City’s Times Square. Hundreds of fans gathered outside below the studio to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars through the huge glass windows that encase the stage.
Over the past ten years,
TRL became the best place to debut a new video, promote movies or shows
and to see special live performances and interviews from the hottest
music stars. But the show was not just a place for music. Movie stars like
Tom Cruise, Will Smith and Arnold Schwarzenegger dropped by before a
new movie, athletes like Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees and even
pop culture legends like Michael Jackson, Madonna and Paul McCartney have made
appearances. To document this overwhelming flow of celebrities,
TRL
had a photo booth which all celebs got in to take pictures.
Carson Daly told Eminem, “I feel like they’re kinda tearin’ down my house.” Beyonce and Fall Out Boy performed while
TRL favorites stopped by including Justin Timberlake with ex N’SYNC-er JC Chasez. 50 Cent, Joel Madden, Snoop Dog, Nelly, Kid Rock, Hilary Duff, Taylor Swift, even P.Diddy also showed up to pay their respects.
The only one missing from this celebration was Miss Britney Spears. TRL was a huge launching pad for her career. The show did its final Top 10 countdown of the all-time TRL videos, and her first hit “…Baby One More Time” made the top of the list and has become an iconic video for our generation.
