November 19, 1863 marks the day of the most famous speech ever uttered by a President in US history: “The Gettysburg Address” by President Abraham Lincoln.
The Gettysburg Address is one of the most quoted speeches in US history! Abe Lincoln delivered the speech at the dedication of the Soldier’s National Cemetery in Gettysburg Penssylvania during the American Civil War, four months after the famous Battle of Gettysburg (where the Union armies defeated the Confederate armies).
So why is this speech so important?
In just two minutes, Lincoln laid out the principles of American philosophy and ideology of a government of the People, by the People, for the People!
In his words, “Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that: ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL!”
You can wikipedia the speech and listen to it, and remember it’s really short! Just goes to show you that sometimes less means more!
